In view of the proposed protests and demonstrations by several political parties on Monday against demonetization of specified currency notes by the Centre, the Odisha government this evening decided to keep all government and private educational institutions closed tomorrow, said sources in Chief Minister’s Office.

Earlier in the day, the state government’s Home department has issued a letter to all district collectors to remain on alert on Monday to avert any untoward incident tomorrow.

The letter directed district Collectors to ask all government officers and staff to reach office latest by 9.30 AM positively.

“It is apprehended that they may stop vehicular traffic, rail traffic and close down business establishments and picket before all government offices, banks and educational institutions etc. You are, therefore, requested to take all preventive measures to maintain law and order and to ensure maintenance of essential services in the district. You are also requested to ask the officers and staff to come to office by 9.30 AM positively,” said Special Secretary, Home, Lalit Das, in a letter to all district Collectors today.
