Bhubaneswar: All mandis across Odisha will be under CCTV surveillance and vehicles engaged in transporting products from mandis to millers will have Global Positioning System (GPS), informed Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra today.

"The CCTV cameras will be installed at all mandis. We will use technology to check corruption," Patra told reporters.

This apart, the vehicles carrying paddy from mandis to millers will have GPS to monitor their movements.

"We will install the GPS in the vehicles to monitor their movements from mandis to millers. We will check whether the vehicles carrying paddy reaching the millers from mandis or they are unloading the product midway," the minister said.

This will be implemented within a month.

On skyrocketing prices of vegetables in Odisha, the minister said that potato and onion prices have been controlled.

"Currently, the potato prices have been capped within Rs 30-Rs 35 per kg and onion price at Rs 40 in the state. We have verified the prices and reason behind high prices of potatoes and onions," Patra said, adding that the department authorities have been directed to conduct raids on retailers who are selling these essential vegetables at higher prices.
