All set for first international flight from Odisha capital Wednesday

Fulfilling long-standing aspirations of people of Odisha, Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in the state capital will turn truly international from tomorrow with the launching of first direct international flight to Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital.

A flight of Air Asia from Kuala Lumpur is scheduled to land at BPIA at 11.25 PM tomorrow and is scheduled to depart for Kuala Lumpur at 11.55 PM, BPIA sources said.

BPIA is fully geared up for the much-awaited event. For the purpose, a cabin for Air Asia has been erected at Terminal-II of the airport.

Initially, Air Asia has scheduled to operate four flights in a week-Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The airline has received an overwhelming response from the people of Odisha with bookings for the next six months, claimed Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Panda.

Notably, three years after getting the international status, international flights will operate from BPIA.

Air Asia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 17 last with Odisha government to operate direct flights to/from Malaysian capital – Kuala Lumpur.
