All train services cancelled in India for COVID-19 outbreak

Bhubaneswar: In the wake of rapid spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country, Ministry of Railways decided to cancel all train services till March 31.

“All originating long-distance Mail/Express and Intercity trains including premium trains and all originating passenger trains shall remain cancelled till 2400 hours (12.00 AM) of March 31,” said Railway Board in a release.

The suburban trains and trains of Metro Railway, Kolkata will continue until 12.00 AM of March 22. Thereafter, all suburban trains and Metro trains will be off the tracks till 12.00 AM of March 31.

The trains, which had already commenced their journey prior to 4.00 AM today, will run upto their destinations.

However, freight operations will continue.

The zonal railways have been advised to ensure strict adherence to the above instructions.

The Railway Board directed the railway authorities of all the zones to inform the passengers through SMS regarding cancellations.
