Amalaki Ekadashi or Amalaka Ekadashi is observed on the ‘ekadashi’ of the Shukla Paksha during the lunar month of Phalgun.
On the Amalaki Ekadashi day, devotees worship the amla tree. It is believed that Lord Vishnu resides in amla tree on this day.
The day marks the onset of main celebrations of Holi.

Rituals: On this day, devotees wake up early in the morning, take bath and worship Lord Vishnu and the sacred amla tree.
They take ‘sankalp’ with sesame seeds and coins with the motive to attain moksha after death.
They offer water, sandalwood, roli, chawal, flowers and incense sticks to the sacred tree.
After this, they offer food to a Brahmin, under the tree. If amla tree is unavailable, Tulsi tree can be worshipped.
Devotees observe a strict fast on this day. Only food made from amla can be eaten.
Some also observe partial fast by avoiding food made from grains and rice.
The vrat observer listens to Amalaki Ekadashi vrat katha after finishing the puja rituals.
