Bhubaneswar: Amarda Road (Rasgovindapur) airstrip in Mayurbhanj will soon be operationalised.

Commerce & Transport, Steel & Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena had an elaborate discussion today with Housing & Urban Development, and Public Enterprises Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra regarding the airstrip.

Minister Jena reviewed the progress of work and urged on earliest completion of necessary formalities. Besides, all round development of Jharsuguda Airport was also discussed in the presence of local MLA Tankadhar Tripathy.

Amarda Road airstrip is a former wartime airfield located near Rasgovindpur in the district.

Built in the 1940s, it has 11,000 feet concrete runway.

The proposal to renovate the airstrip for future operations under UDAN scheme will be realised soon and it will be developed as a commercial airport with acquisition of more land area and necessary infrastructure, Minister Jena said.
