Ambulance drops newborn baby, mother midway in Odisha

Nuapada: In a shocking apathy of ambulance driver in Odisha’s Nuapada district, he dropped a mother along with her newborn baby midway and left the spot.

Although, woman and her family did not lodge any complaint with anywhere, the media informed the CDMO about the inhuman incident.

According to reports, Baladev Majhi of Khipripali under Sinapali police limit had called for 102 ambulance service after his pregnant wife Taruni Majhi suffered labour pain on Tuesday. The ambulance, which reached late, stayed 1 km away from the venue and did not pick up the patient from house. However, the family managed to bring Taruni to ambulance on their own efforts and she was rushed to Khariar Sinapali community health centre, from where she was shifted to Khariar health centre.

Reports said that the ambulance driver had taken Rs 500 from Baladev towards vehicle expenses to carry the patient Khariar hospital where she delivered a baby.

While the mother along with newborn baby was brought in the same ambulance on Wednesday from the hospital to home, the driver dropped them near Sinapali hospital and left the spot.

Baladev alleged that the driver had demanded oil expenses from him to bring the patient from Khariar to home. The poor man expressed his inability to pay money suddenly, but promised to pay him after his wife and baby reach home safely from hospital. However, the driver left them midway.

Baladev brought her wife and baby to home in Khipripali village arranging a private vehicle from Sinapali.
