In a tragic incident, a pregnant woman was killed and five persons were injured when an 102-Ambulance carrying them met with an accident near Shankarakhola here in Odisha's Kandhamal district early this morning.

The deceased woman was identified as Samajini Pradhan, sources said, adding that an ASHA worker was among the injured persons.

According to reports, the ill-fated vehicle was on the way to the district headquarters hospital from Raikia. The driver of the ambulance fell asleep near Shankarakhola as a result of which it rammed into a tree at around 4 am killing the woman and injuring five persons.

The injured were rescued and admitted to a nearby hospital.
