Amid flood situation, Odisha, Chhattisgarh Govts to meet today over Mahanadi water dispute

Bhubaneswar: Amidst flood situation following incessant rain in the state, Odisha and Chhattisgarh Governments are scheduled to hold a high-level meeting on the longstanding Mahanadi water sharing issue.

As per sources, Chief Secretaries of both the states will hold the discussions on the water dispute via video conference at 4 pm today.

Water Resources Department Engineer-in-Chief Bijay Mishra said floods in Mahanadi river is likely to touch peak level during the next three hours. This morning, about 11.6 lakh cusec water was flowing at Mundali barrage, he informed adding that the water level will increase for some time and recede subsequently.

Meanwhile, water level of Hirakud dam crossed the danger level and stood at 625.04 ft by 6 am today. While inflow of water into the reservoir was 7,85,291 cusec the outflow stood at  4,34,008 cusec.

Currently, floodwater is being discharged through total 26 sluice gates of the dam.
