Amphan: SRC asks Collectors to make arrangements for stay of migrants from coastal Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena today asked all district Collectors  to make arrangements for stay of migrant returnees, belonging to coastal districts likely to be affected by cyclone Amphan, entering to the state through border check points.

In a letter, the SRC stated that coastal and adjoining districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinhpur, Kendrapada and Mayurbhanj are going to be affected by the cyclonic storm Amphan. In view of this, it is not advisable to allow people entering into Odisha from other states by buses to proceed to their districts which are already under the threat of cyclone.

However, if their journey is stopped at the check posts, there may be large congregation at the border check posts, the SRC added

“Keeping this in view,  Collectors of the districts where border checkpoints are located have been asked to allow the vehicles to enter into the state and make necessary accommodation and food arrangements for the returnees in the Temporary Medical Centres (TMCs) or cyclone shelters in respective districts,” the SRC said in the letter.

“If huge number of people are entering through check posts and they can not be accommodated in the TMCs/ shelters in the district, the Collector may contact his counterparts of nearby districts to make the arrangements for their stay till the cyclonic situation improves,” the letter reads.
