Andhra nurse turns saviour for Odisha woman, helps deliver baby in bus

Bhubaneswar: A pregnant woman from Odisha’s Ganjam district reportedly gave birth to a baby girl in a bus in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh yesterday.

P. Yamuna Reddy, wife of Dilli Rao of Sural village under Chikiti block in Ganjam, suffered labour pain while travelling to Ichchapuram from Visakhapatnam in a bus of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) yesterday.

The woman suffered labour pain soon after the bus crossed Srikakulam. Fortunately, a staff nurse of a government hospital in Andhra was also travelling in the bus. The staff nurse examined the woman and asked the driver to park the bus on the roadside, sources said.

All other passengers were asked to come out of the bus. The staff nurse attended the woman when she gave birth to a baby girl in the bus, sources added.

The woman and her newborn daughter were later taken to a hospital at Palasa. The mother-daughter duo are now doing fine, said a source.
