Protesters block NH 5 at CRP Sq in city

Hundreds of vehicles and commuters were stranded for nearly 30 minutes on Saturday as traffic along the National Highway no. 5 was paralysed at the busy CRP Square in the city following a road blockade by angry supporters of the Independent candidate who won from Ward 15 in the just concluded BMC polls.Road blockade at CRP

Normalcy returned after the police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the protesters and arrested 15 of them including two women. Two platoons of police force were deployed at the spot to ensure normal traffic.

The protesters said the city police had gone back on their promise to arrest the local BJD leaders and supporters who attacked the winning candidate’s family and house. They demanded their immediate arrest and threatened to resort to other agitational means  until the culprits involved in the attack on January 9 in the Rental Colony area are arrrested.
