Angul spurious liquor tragedy: 1 more dies, 3 hospitalized in critical condition

Angul: After death of three youths, another person died while three others have been hospitalized in critical condition after consuming spurious liquor at Patharagada village under Purunakote police limits in Angul district.

The deceased has been identified as  Pramod Sahu (44). He died while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here. Besides, Basanta Dehury (44), Rohan Pradhan (22) and Sushant Dehury (34) were admitted to  hospital here this morning in critical condition.

With this, the number of deaths in this connection mounted to four.

Earlier, three tribal youths Kaira Pradhan (20), Tukuna Pradhan (30) and Sashi Bhushan Dehury, all daily wage labourers, died another worker was admitted to the DHH after consuming country liquor on Sunday evening. All of them were engaged in a house construction work on the fateful day.

Today, Pramod went to the the construction site to cook food and consumed the spurious liquor.

When asked, elder brother of deceased Sashi Bhusan said the workers had consumed the country liquor after their work on Sunday evening. First Kaira fell ill and subsequently died in the evening and Tukuna died late in the night. Later, Sashi Bhusan and another labourer Basudeb Pradhan were admitted the Angul DHH on Monday morning. Sashi Bhusan died while undergoing treatment in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, district Excise officials along with Purunakote  police visited the village and initiated an inquiry  in this connection from different angles.
