Annual Conference of Pediatric Surgeons inaugurated at KIIT

The 39th Annual Conference of the Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons (IAPS), under the aegis of the Odisha State Chapter of the IAPS, has been inaugurated by Governor,Dr. S. C. Jamir on Friday.

Inaugurating the four day seminar at KIIT University, Governor Dr Jamir advised doctors to serve the common people and reach out to those who live in the rural areas without access to proper health care.

The chief speaker Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT and KISS said, Medical Science is one branch of science that serves people in a very direct manner. He called upon doctors to pay special attention to the poor who can not access health care due to non-availability of facilities or lack of money power. Medical services should be inclusive and pro-poor, he said.

Pediatric Surgery is an age specific super-specialty discipline where the thrust is on management of congenital malformations (abnormalities by birth), newborn surgery and paediatric urology. Recently, minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy, thoracoscopy) and organ transplantation (kidney, liver) have revolutionised pediatric surgery in India. This conference, being organised for the first time in the state, is expected to have the participation of about 300 pediatric surgeons from all over the country.

Dr. Sudhakar Jadhav, President IAPS introduced the theme of the conference while and Dr. Kishor Panjwani, Secretary, IAPS presented the annual report of the Association. Dr. Hiranya Kishor Mohanty, Organising Secretary gave the welcome address while Dr. Subrat Kunmar Mohanty, Joint Organising Secretary proposed the vote of thanks.
