Another child injured in fire tragedy in Odisha’s Ganjam succumbs

Cuttack: Another child injured in the fire incident in Khairachata village of Ganjam district succumbed this evening while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital. The number of deaths in the fire incident rose to four.

The deceased, identified as Alok Jena (5) was admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur with 60 percent burn injuries. Later he was shifted to the SCB hospital where he breathed his last.

Earlier in the day, Sairam Jani, Deepak Gouda and Itishree Jena, all below 10 years of age, died while Alok sustained grievous burn injuries when when a heap of straw caught fire in Khairachata village.

Expressing sorrow, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each for the family of the deceased. “I express my deep sympathy towards the bereaved families and announce Rs 4 lakh each for the next of the kin of the victims,” Patnaik said in a statement.
