Baliapal, Dec 7:

While the CBI is presently investigating into the mega chit fund scam in 44 companies in Odisha, another scam has come to the limelight in Baleswar district.
Gurukul

According to reports, Gurukul, a chit fund company with its head office at Kolkata, had opened a branch in Baleswar district in 2010.

The company, in course of time, was able to collect near 60 crore from the people promising them with attractive returns.

Out of Rs 60 crore, the company had collected about Rs 10 crore from Baliapal block of the district where it had opened its branch office.

The company later closed its branch office last year after the state government began taking action against the chit fund companies.

Revealing the matter on Saturday, a group of depositors from Baliapal block, demanded that the CBI should include the Gurukul company in the list of chit fund companies for investigation.

“We demand that the CBI should investigate into the chit fund scam in Gurukul company to enable us to get back our deposits,” the aggrieved depositors told the media while staging a demonstration.
