Another divyang girl ‘raped’ in Odisha; accused detained  

Berhampur: In yet another shameful incident of divyang girls being sexually harassed in Odisha, a 14-year-old differently-abled girl has allegedly been raped by a youth in Rambha police station area of Ganjam district.

However, police have detained the accused and are interrogating him in this connection.

As per a complaint lodged by the girl’s family yesterday, when the minor was alone in the house on Tuesday, one M Lingaraj Patra came in and outraged her modesty. After coming to know about the incident, family members of the girl brought the matter before a village committee. Finding him guilty, the village head had imposed a penalty on the accused. However, Patra  did not go by the committee’s decision.

Later, the girl’s father lodged a complaint at Rambha police station yesterday. The cops detained the accused and began an investigation. Today, both the accused and the girl were sent to hospital for medical examination, sources said.

Earlier this month, a divyang girl was allegedly raped by a neighbour in her house in Nilagiri area of Balasore district.
