Another elephant dies of suspected herpes virus infection in Odisha

Banki: After fighting for life for past five days, the sick female elephant in Banra Kuamada forest in Banki succumbed today afternoon. The jumbo is suspected to have died of herpes virus infection but the exact reason is yet to be known.

The female elephant was undergoing treatment under the supervision of a team of veterinary doctors of OUAT and an expert team from Assam. However, her condition was getting worse day by day for the past five days and she died today.

In the past one month, four elephants have died at the Nandankanan zoo raising concerns for the State government. Following the deaths, the government has sought assistance from experts of Assam and Kerala.
