Berhampur, Mar 19:

Yet another farmer succumbed to his suicide attempt in Odisha today.

According to reports, one Brundaban Swain (65), a farmer hailing from Nuagaon village under Aska block in Odisha’s Ganjam district had consumed poison in the afternoon in his field to commit suicide.

He was initially rushed to the Government Hospital at Aska by fellow villagers who had found him in a critical condition in his field amid ruined crops in the middle of his field. He was later shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

However, despite best of the efforts by the doctors he succumbed.

The deceased farmer’s family members allege that he had borrowed heavily from the bank and had cultivated mung in his fields. As his crops had failed he was a worried man and had taken the extreme step as prospects of repaying the loan was bleak, they added.
