Another girl gang raped, killed in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, June 10 :

Yet another girl, a 13-year-old, was gang raped and killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district, police said Tuesday.

Two accused have been arrested and are being interrogated. The incident took place Monday in Sabdalpur Rehra village. The girl was strangulated to death after being raped by the assailants. Her body was found in a sugarcane field, said police.

People jammed the Bijnor-Budaun state highway, protesting against the incident. The situation became tense as the victim and the accused are from two communities, an official said. District officials tried to intervene but were met with hostile reception.

However, a breakthrough was achieved Monday night after the district magistrate agreed to an ex-gratia payment of Rs.5 lakh and security to the girl’s family and immediate arrest of the alleged attackers.
