Cuttack: Another scam with regard to the implementation of Odisha government’s flagship healthcare scheme, Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), has come to the fore in the Silver City here.
As per the allegation, a patient was treated in a private hospital in the city here under the BSKY even though the healthcare facility has not been empanelled under the scheme.
Madhupatna Police in the city here have arrested two persons in connection with the irregularities. The arrested have been identified as Shobha Hospital owner Ashok Pati and manager of the health facility Shantanu Pati, said Additional DCP Anil Mishra.
“One Prasanna Kumar Patra of Bhubaneswar had lodged a complaint regarding medical negligence in connection with the death of his wife at JM Care Hospital in Cuttack city on March 7. A case had been registered as per his allegation. We came to know about the irregularities in the implementation of BSKY while investigating the case,” Mishra said.
Patra’s wife had been admitted to JM Care Hospital at Nuapada with certain health complications some days ago. Chinmaya Kumar Sahu, a doctor at the hospital, was treating Patra’s wife. The woman was released from the hospital following a surgery, police said.
However, the woman could not get relief from her complications. She was again admitted to JM Care Hospital on March 6. But, Sahu did not attend the patient citing one reason or other. The woman finally died on March 7, Mishra said.
“While investigating the case, we came to know that JM Care has not been empanelled under the BSKY. As per the available documents, the woman was admitted to Shobha Hospital, a BSKY empanelled hospital, at Paga in Cuttack,” said Mishra.
Dr. Chinmaya Sahu in connivance with Shobha Hospital owner Ashok Pati and his manager Shantanu Pati had carried out the irregularities by forging the documents, police said.
“We have arrested Ashok Pati and Shantanu Pati in connection with the irregularities and produced them in a local court. Dr. Chinmaya Sahu is now on bail in connection with a case pertaining to medical negligence. We will request the court to cancel his bail in the wake of his involvement in the BSKY irregularities,” said the Additional DCP.
Notably, Odisha Government took stringent action against the South Point Hospital in Cuttack on allegations of irregularities under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) in January this year.
Following the complaint, the health authorities in the first phase de-empaneled the South Point Hospital and removed the Swasthya Mitra deployed to the said hospital.
