AP Tourists beaten up in Odisha for opposing ill-treatment to cattle

Rayagada: In a shocking incident, the tourists from neighbouring state Andhra Pradesh were beaten up mercilessly by alleged cattle traffickers for opposing ill treatment to cattle in Odisha’s Rayagada district.

A case has been registered on basis of the complaint lodged by the injured tourists with Chandili police here today.

Reacting to the incident, Rayagada collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar said that accused will be arrested soon and state government will bear treatment costs of the injured tourists.

According to reports, seven tourists including three women from Andhra Pradesh had visited neighbouring tourist destination Rayagada yesterday. The cattle traffickers were taking around 500 cattle on the road near Putupadar village. The tourists found the cattle were being beaten up by the traffickers by tying their legs on the road. When they tried to prevent them from the act, the irate traffickers attacked them and beat them mercilessly.

Few tourists were seriously injured in the attack. Out of them, one sustained injury on his head and body. He was identified as KV Kanan, a software engineer.
