AQI updates: Air quality slips to ‘poor’ category in seven places of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Air Quality Index (AQI) of seven places in Odisha was described as ‘poor’, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) sources said today. The places with a poor AQI rating are Angul, Barbil, Bileipada, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Rourkela, and Suakati.

Angul recorded a ‘poor’ air quality with an index value of 257 and major pollutant found was PM2.5.

The AQI of other places are: Balasore (air quality-moderate, index value-104, and major pollutant found-PM10), Barbil (air quality-poor, index value-284, and major pollutant found-O3), Baripada (air quality-moderate, index value-198, and major pollutant found-PM2.5), Bhubaneswar (air quality-satisfactory, index value-91, and major pollutant found-CO, PM2.5), Bileipada (air quality-poor, index value-244, and major pollutant found-PM10), Brajarajnagar (air quality-moderate, index value-118, and major pollutant found-PM10), Byasanagar (air quality-moderate, index value-193, and major pollutant found-PM2.5), Cuttack (air quality-moderate, index value-118, and major pollutant found-PM10), Keonjhar (air quality-poor, index value-209, and major pollutant found-PM2.5), Nayagarh (air quality-poor, index value-265, and major pollutant found-PM2.5), Rairangpur (air quality-moderate, index value-119, and major pollutant found-PM2.5), Rourkela (air quality-poor, index value-207, and major pollutant found-PM2.5), and Suakati (air quality-poor, index value-272, and major pollutant found-O3).

Worth mentioning, breathing clean air lessens the possibility of stroke, heart attack, cardiac arrest, lung cancer as well as chronic and acute respiratory ailments such as asthma. Lower levels of air pollution are better for heart and respiratory health both in the long and short-term.
