Armed rebels abduct two villagers in Odisha’s Malkangiri

A group of armed Maoists late on Friday night allegedly abducted two persons from Mundaguda village in Kamarpalli panchayat under Mathili block in Odisha’s Malkangiri district suspecting them to be police informers.

Around 15-20 armed rebels stormed into the village and took away the duo– Sina Madhi and Dambaru Sagadia– from their houses last night.

The asked the abducted villagers to accompany them. When they resisted, they were assaulted and forcibly taken away from their houses. They family members tried to protest but in vain.

Meanwhile, panic has spread in the village after last night’s incident. The villagers, including the family members, have launched a search for the abducted persons.

After getting the information, police reached the spot and are investigating into the matter. The officials have launched a search operation to trace the abducted ones.

Notably, around 25 persons have been abducted by the members of the outlawed groups in the last two months in the district. They were allegedly beaten up by the ultras on suspicion of being police informers.

It may be recalled that two villagers were gunned down by the ultras on Thursday at Kanagoda area under Kalimela police limits in the district. They were shot dead by the Maoists suspecting them to be police informers.

The duo was abducted from the village on the previous night and their bullet riddled body was spotted on the outskirts of the village on the following day.

On October 3, another villager—Arjun Khara—from Kandhaguda village was shot dead by the rebels.
