Armed robbers loot rural bank in Odisha

Armed robbers on Wednesday robbed Rs 88,000 from the Agaria branch of the Odisha Gramya Bank under Baisinga police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, police said.

Police said the robbers decamped with the money after injuring the bank manager Subodh Das, cashier Somnath Prusty and a group-D employee of the bank.

Reports said, four persons in two bikes raided the bank around noon and locked all the customers present in a room. They attacked  the branch manager before snatching  away Rs 88,000 from the cash counter.

There were only 16 customers in the bank when the incident took place, police said.

Mayurbhanj SP Nikhil Kanodia said, the concerned Odisha Gramya bank branch had not paid any heed to the police advice to put in place the basic minimum security measures to ward off robbery attempts.
