Around 20 injured after pick-up van overturns in Odisha’s Nabarangpur, 2 critical

Umarkote: As many as 20 persons sustained grievous injuries this afternoon at around 2.00 PM as a pick-up van in which they were travelling turned turtle near Mahanda village when the vehicle was on its way from Ekamba village under Jharigaon block to Mahanda, both in Nabarangpur district.

According to a source, 30 persons including women and children were proceeding to Mahanda village to attend a Nirbandha (ring ceremony) when the fatal road mishap occurred. The driver of the pick-up van (OD-24 H-8840) lost control of the vehicle and he fled from the spot soon after the overturn.

Some locals rescued the injured persons and sent them to the community health centre (CHC) in Umarkote for treatment. The condition of two of them is stated to be critical now, a doctor treating them said. They were shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Nabarangpur as their condition deteriorated.

On being informed, a team of Jharigaon police reached the accident site and launched a probe.
