Bhubaneswar: In a twist to the EVM breaking incident leading to the arrest of BJP's MLA candidate Prasanta Jagadev in Odisha, a CCTV footage surfaced on various media platforms.
The CCTV footage has been shared by the BJP's Bhubaneswar MP candidate Aparajita Sarangi on her Facebook account with the caption 'The truth is never hidden and it is proved that MLA Prasanta Jagadev had not vandalised the EVM'.
Earlier in the day, the Bhubaneswar MP had announced to make the CCTV footage public to prove Jagadev's innocence in the EVM vandalism case.
Addressing a presser, Sarangi alleged the BJD government of hatching a conspiracy against Jagadev to demean his popularity in his constituency.
Reacting to the video being circulated on electronic and social media platforms, the Chief Electoral Officer directed Khordha District Election Officer for an immidiate inquiry and clarify the matter.
According to reports, Prasanta Jagadev, who is the BJP's MLA candidate from Khordha Assembly seat in Odisha Elections 2024, was arrested for allegdly vandalising an EVM at a polling station in Begunia Assembly Constituency in Khordha district during the polls on May 25.
The state unit of BJP condemned Jagadev's arrest claiming it as an act of conspiracy by the BJD. Protesting the police action, the BJP workers had gheraoed the sub-collector office in Khordha yesterday claiming that the BJP candidate's had no role in EVM vandalism case.
