The Vigilance sleuths produced the tainted cop— limping on crutches— before the residential court of Special Vigilance Judge here in CDA area. The investigating officers sought a four-day remand of the cop for questioning him over his alleged involvement in the Rs 88 lakh scam.

The court, however, has posted the hearing for tomorrow.

Nayak was brought to Bhubaneswar today on a four-day transit remand after his arrest in Ghaziabad yesterday. He was moved out of the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) on a wheelchair as he was unable to ambulate post his surgery on right leg.

He was produced before the Ghaziabad CJM court which allowed the cops to take him on four-day transit remand.

Notably, five persons have already been arrested in connection with the scam. Earlier this month, Joydeep Nayak was suspended from the service for his alleged involvement in siphoning off Rs 88 lakh meant for the computer education of SC/ST students and self help groups (SHGs).

The officer, said to be the prime accused in the case, was on deputation to Odisha till December 2015.

During his tenure as the IG of SC & ST Protection Cell, HRPC, the scam allegedly took place in connivance with the staff of the department and private players.

According to reports, Nayak had undergone a ligament surgery on his leg at the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi and was discharged from the hospital on June 22. Since then, he was on the run and remained incommunicado.
