Malkangiri: A day after Odisha police arrested 12 Maoists from Malkangiri, one of them today allegedly committed suicide at the district police headquarters.

The deceased has been identified as Sama Kawasi of Chandraguda village.

According to reports, the arrested Maoists were today scheduled to be produced before court. While all of them had boarded a police vehicle, Sama went to a toilet inside the headquarters premises on the pretext of attending nature's call.

Moments after, his body was found in the toilet being hung with a piece of cloth. After a post mortem, the body was handed over to family members of Kabasi.

"The Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) has been asked to probe the matter," Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena said.
