Bhubaneswar: Woes of consumers mounted further today as onion price touched Rs 100 per kg at Chhatra Bazaar in Cuttack and Rs 80 per kg in Bhubaneswar today.
Yesterday onion was being sold at Rs 80 per kg at Chhatra Bazaar. People have raised apprehension about the bulb vegetable price after it jumped by Rs 20 in past 24 hours.
“We will use half of an onion while cooking after the spike in the bulb vegetable price,” said Nalini, a housewife.
Some consumers were seen purchasing four to five kg onions at a time apprehending further price spurt in coming days.
Also, traders said onion price hike and supply shortage in Nashik of Maharashtra, Kurnool and Gudum of Andhra Pradesh from where the bulb is imported has affected the rates in Odisha.
“The onion price will remain high in next one to two months,” a trader said on condition of anonymity.
