ASHA, Anganwadi workers and TMC staff among new COVID cases in Odisha’s Kendrapara

Kendrapara: As many as six persons including Anganwadi, ASHA workers and staff engaged in two Temporary Medical Camps (TMCs) in Kendrapara district have tested positive for COVID-19.

A total of 18 cases was reported in the district yesterday, of which six cases were detected from two TMCs at Marsaghai High School and cyclone shelter at Penthapal, informed Kendrapara Collector Samarth Verma today.

“Out of six, two are TMC staff. We had collected their swab samples as they were exposed to the quarantinees. They were found positive for COVID-19 and they are asymptomatic. Along with them, an Anganwadi worker, an ASHA worker and volunteers working at Marsaghai High School TMC and cyclone shelter at Penthapal also tested positive. They all have been sent to the COVID Hospital for treatment,” said Verma.

Among 18 cases, 12 are Gujarat, Karnataka and West Bengal returnees. They were lodged in the TMCs. The quarantinees have been shifted to the COVID Hospital in Kendrapara after their test result came out positive, he told media.

The two places Marsaghai and Penthapal, where the COVID cases were detected, have been decalred as containment zones in the district.

“Around 400 families including 300 households in Marsaghai High School TMC area and 80 households at Dandi Sahi cyclone shelter in Penthapal will be under containment. The first round of active surveillance and individual household checking have been completed. Not a single person has shown any COVID symptom so far. The containment restrictions will be lifted if nobody will develop COVID symptoms in second round of surveillance,” the Collector said.
