Ashtadhatu idol of Goddess Kotrakshi returns to Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur: The Ashtadhatu idol of Goddess Kotrakshi, the village deity of Darpana under Badachana block of Odisha’s Jajpur district, returned to the locality today as it was stolen in 2021.

Devotion gripped the area while the idol was taken out in a procession from the Badachana police station to Darpana village.

Local MLA Amar Prasad Satpathy among other noted personalities of the region participated in the event.

Yesterday, the Customs officials had handed over the idol to Odisha Police in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He had written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requesting her intervention for the return of the idol, which was kept at the Custom Commissioner’s office of New Delhi Air Cargo.

The idol was stolen from a temple of the village on January 11, 2021 and later recovered at New Delhi Airport.
