ASI to urge SJTA to ban DJ near Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri

Puri: Expressing a big concern over playing of DJ that affects outer wall of Jagannath temple, Archaeological Survey of India will urge Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to ban it near the shrine to protect it from sound pollution.

As the high volume of DJ is putting adverse effect on Maghanad wall of Srimandir, we will write to the chief administrator requesting him to issue prohibitory order to keep a particular distance around the centuries old temple, informed ASI Superintendent Hemsagar Abhay Nayak.

As per Pollution Control Board directive, DJ is not allowed to be played above sound of 62 decibel as higher volume will put negative impact on heartbeat of a human. A special device has been provided to the police to control the high volume.

However, no exemplary action is found to have taken against people for violating the order during wedding procession or any other social event.
