Asian Games: Odisha’s Dutee Chand storms into 200m final

Bhubaneswar: Odisha-born top Indian athlete Dutee Chand stormed into the women’s 200 metres final at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Running in lane number 8, Dutee qualified for the final after finishing first with a timing of 23.00 seconds in the semi-final.

Expressing happiness after reaching final, Dutee said: “I am working hard and hoping to win Gold in the final. I need your blessings.”

The 200-metre final event is scheduled to be held tomorrow (August 29).

Worth mentioning, the ace sprinter had bagged a silver medal in women’s 100m dash on Sunday, which was the country’s first medal in 20 years in this event.

The 22-year-old athlete was taking part in her first Asian Games. She was suspended by the IAAF in 2014 under its hyperandrogenism policy but she filed an appealed before the Court of Arbitration for Sports and won it.

Recently, under a revised rule of the IAAF, Dutee was left outside the purview of the hyperandrogenism policy which gave her liberty to pursue her career.
