Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visits Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri

Bhubaneswar: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited the Jagannath temple in Puri town along with his family and had Darshan of the Holy Trinity. The CM and his family members paid their obeisance to the presiding deities seeking the blessings of the Lords.

Sarma was received by the District Administration and later Puri MLA Jayanta Sarangi welcomed the Assam Chief Minister by honuoring him with a Khandua Pata (traditional Bandha or Ikat sari).

The CM became emotional while having Darshan of the deities at Bahara Katha inside the 12th-century shrine. He prayed before Lord Jagannath for the wellbeing of the people of Assam and tied a sacred thread to the Kalpa Bata at the Vaishnavite shrine, an official source said.

“I will write to the Odisha Government to provide necessary assistance to construct a Yatri Niwas in Puri for the people of Assam. I had previously visited the temple but came this time as the CM along with the family and sought the blessings of the Lord,” Sarma said.

The CM was accompanied by BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra and some local leaders.
