The state vigilance today arrested an associate professor of surgery of VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla on charges of accepting illegal gratification from a patient.
Dr Ramani Ranjan Mund, an associate professor in the surgery department of VSS Medical College and Hospital, Burla was caught red handed today by the vigilance officers at his government quarters while accepting a bribe of Rs 1000 from one Rukmana Mohapatra to open the stitch of his grandmother, who was operated by Dr. Mund on September 2, and to issue a discharge certificate to her.
Reportedly, Dr Mund had already taken an amount of Rs 5,000 from the complainant for operating on his grandmother. Vigilance sleuths recovered the bribe amount of Rs1,000 from the Dr Mund’s bedroom and seized it in the presence of witnesses. A positive chemical reaction during hand wash confirmed the acceptance of bribe, said vigilance department sources.
