Balangir: Healthcare service was partially affected at the Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Odisha's Balangir district today as house surgeons of the healthcare facility staged a cease-work protest demanding arrest of a person who had allegedly assaulted house surgeon Biswaranjan Sahu on Thursday.

Staging a dharna on the hospital premises, the agitating house surgeons demanded immediate arrest of accused Samir Badamali under the NSA Act.

On being informed about the protest, Balangir Collector and SP reached the spot and held discussion with the agitators.

Till last reports came in, the protest was continuing.

House surgeon Biswaranjan Sahu was allegedly attacked by Samir, relative of a patient who was being treated by the doctor. The accused attacked the doctor alleging medical negligence.

The victim sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the medical college and hospital.

A special police team has been formed to probe the incident and nab the accused, the SP said.
