Attacked youth succumbs to injuries

An 18-year-old boy, who was undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack after being attacked by local goons in Shanti Nagar slum under Kharavela Nagar police limits here on Diwali night, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Gopal Naidu, a street toy vendor.

“At about 11.30 pm on Diwali night, my brother was bursting crackers with his friend at Press Colony chhak hear near the slum when some local goons armed with sticks and other weapons attacked him brutally after a heated exchange between them. He was rushed to Capital Hospital with severe head injuries and was referred to the SCB later,” said S Madhavi, the sister of the deceased.

“Though we lodged a complaint the day after the attack, no action has been taken by the police as yet,” alleged Madhavi.

Aggrieved locals threatened to gherao Khavela Nagar police station in protest against police inaction.

Meanwhile, Kharavela Nagar police have detained three people in connection with the case for interrogation.
