A 12-hour auto-rickshaw strike across Odisha by All Odisha Auto Chalaka Mahasangha affected normal life in the state, especially in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, today as commuters faced difficulties in reaching their destinations conveniently.
Effect of the stir was mostly felt in Bhubaneswar, where the three-wheelers are considered as the lifeline of public transport system.
Members of Bhubaneswar Auto Mahasangha staged a dharna at Lower PMG here and held a protest meeting.
The strike was called by the auto-rickshaw drivers’ association demanding fulfilment of two-point charter of demands.
The body has demanded withdrawal of hike in road tax and decision of drivers to pay 50 per cent insurance premium.
