Bhubaneswar, Aug 30:
Under fire for ignoring the infrastructural development of VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla, the State Government is in the process of granting autonomy to the medical college and hospital.
“The proposal for giving autonomy VSS medical college has been cleared by both Finance and Law departments. It is now awaiting the approval of Chief Minister, which is expected soon,” said a senior official of Health department today.
Official sources said a bill, granting autonomy to VSS Medical College and Hospital, would be introduced in the Assembly later.
The status would help doctors, with the help of a board, manage the day-to-day affairs of the institute.
Meanwhile, the government has restructured the medical college teachers’ hierarchy from a four to three-tier system. Some of the deficiencies pointed out by the Medical Council of India (MCI) have already been met and compliance report has been sent to the Centre.
