B Tech graduate among six arrested for burglary in Odisha’s Steel City

Police on Friday arrested six persons, including four thieves and another two who dealt in the stolen goods, for looting three houses during the past week in Odisha’s Steel City of Rourkela. All of them have been forwarded to court.

The men have been identified as Md. Zahir Aktar (25), a resident of Sector-15, Subham Nag (19), a resident of Chhend, Deba Gochayat (20), a resident of  Sector-17, Krishna Tona (24), a resident of Sector-17, Sanjay Badi (30), a resident of Sector-18 and Ganesh Bag (22), a resident of Sector-7.

Sanjay Badi and Ganesh Bag had been dealing in stolen goods while the other four were thieves. According to police, Md .Zahir Aktar is a B. Tech graduate and his father is an employee of RSP. Md. Zahir Aktar, the mastermind of these thefts, has three burglary cases against him in different police stations of the city.

Rourkela Sector-15 police today arrested these men based on leads gathered during investigation. The cops have recovered gold ornaments, a Samsung LCD 40″ TV, brass materials and household items worth about Rs 3 lakhs from them.

“We have arrested six accused and forwarded them to court,” said Lingaraj Lenka, IIC of Sector-15 police station.

As per sources in the police, the gang had broken into houses numbered B-98 of Sector -7, B-152 of Sector-18 and D-122 of Sector-18 on the night of May 1, May 2 and May 7 respectively. FIRs had been lodged on May 2, May 3 and May 7 in respective police stations mentioning that gold ornaments worth about Rs 4 lakhs, a Samsung 40″ LCD TV, several brass items and induction cooker had been stolen.

The accused lot confessed to the crime during interrogation. Police are now interrogating another man named Bickey Bag (22), a resident of Sector-7 for his alleged involvement in these thefts.
