Puri: The Bahuda Jatra of Lord Jagannath and His siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra is being held in the pilgrim town of Puri, today.

Lakhs of devotees thronged Puri to witness the return journey of the deities from the Gundicha Temple to the Shree Jagannath Temple.

The temple administration has finalized the schedule for the Bahuda Jatra. Extensive preparations have been made by the police with deployment of 180 platoons of force and 1,000 officers.

Here is the schedule for rituals and events:

  • 4:00 AM: Mangala Alati
  • 4:15 AM: Mailam
  • 4:30 AM: Tadapalagi and Rosahoma
  • 5:00 AM: Abakasha
  • 5:15 AM: Surya Puja
  • 5:30 AM: Dwarapala Puja
  • 5:45 - 6:45 AM: Gopal Ballav and Sakala Dhupa with Khichdi Bhoga
  • 7:00 - 11:30 AM: Senapata Lagi
  • 11:45 AM: Mangalarpana
  • 12:00 - 2:30 PM: Bahuda Pahandi
  • 1:00 - 2:30 PM: Besha Shesha
  • 2:30 - 3:30 PM: Cherapahanra
  • 3:00 - 4:00 PM: Charamala Phita
  • 4:00 PM: Pulling of Chariots

As per rituals, idols of the deities will be escorted to their respective chariots by servitors in Pahandi, a ceremonial procession.

After completion of Cherapahanra ritual, the three chariots will be pulled towards the Shree Jagannath Temple by devotees.

Bahuda Jatra holds equal significance like Ratha Jatra as deities will proceed towards their abode Srimandir after staying for seven days at their birthplace Gundicha Temple.
