Bajrang Dal member among three held for attacking house of petitioner seeking stay on Ratha Jatra

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today arrested three persons including a member of Bajrang Dal on charges of attacking the house of Odisha Bikash Parishad chief Sushant Padhi in Laxmisagar area in Bhubaneswar.

The three arrested persons are Prakash Kalia of Dhauli area, Manoj Mohapatra of Bhimatangi area and Ashok Behera of Khordha. After a case was registered against the three persons under different sections of IPC and Sec 3 of Epidemic Act, police forwarded them to the court.

Police sources said Prakash is the sub coordinator of Bajrang Dal and Manoj is a member of the ‘Go Suraksha’ (Cow Protection unit). After submitting a memorandum to the Sub Collector yesterday, the three persons reached Sushant Padhi’s place in Sai Vihar in Bomikhal Canal Road. The trio then hurled stones and eggs at Sushant’s house and damaged glasses of his car.

Worth mentioning, based on a writ petition filed by Sushant the Supreme Court had on June 18 stayed the conduct Ratha Jatra in Puri. The Commissionerate Police had deployed police personnel in front of the house Sushant to prevent any unpleasant situation.

But the trio clashed with police and hurled eggs and stones at Sushant’s house.

Later police overpowered the three persons and detained the three persons.
