Bhadrak: A widowed woman lodged an FIR today against her in-laws over embezzlement of ex-gratia money received for the demise of her husband who died in the horrific train accident that took place on June 2 evening near Bahanaga Bazaar railway station of Odisha’s Balasore district.
An official source said that the deceased accident victim Gobinda Sahoo, belonged to Sugo village under Basudevpur block of Bhadrak. The victim’s next of kin was earlier given cheques of Rs 5 lakh by the State Government, Rs 9.5 lakh and another Rs 50 thousand by Railway authorities, respectively.

However, Gobinda’s wife identified as Bijayalaxmi Sahoo alleged that she was beaten by her in-laws and the entire ex-gratia money was taken away by them from her bank account. She sought justice saying that the lone daughter of the couple is badly in need of education and upbringing.
On the other hand, the woman’s father-in-law Rabindra Sahoo and mother-in-law Annapurna refuted the allegations saying that money was withdrawn from Bijayalaxmi’s bank account with her consent to repay an amount earlier borrowed for the performance of the deceased’s last rites.
Lakhs of rupees were spent for the last rites and also for an under-construction house which was to be completed; hence, the amount was withdrawn, the elderly man clarified.
