Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today issued Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for disposal of 28 unclaimed bodies from the Balasore train tragedy, that claimed lives of over 290 persons.

After the train mishap, the bodies were kept in special containers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.

As per the SOP set by the civic body, 2-3 carriers will be provided by the BMC for smooth transportation of bodies from AIIMS to the cremation ground in Bharatpur.

The Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar shall hand over the bodies to the BMC Health Officer adhering to the existing guidelines in this regard. The whole process will be recorded on camera.

The disposal will be carried out within the next two days, sources said.
