Bhubaneswar: Soon no one will be allowed to consume alcohol, paan or gutkha on the premises of Shree Lingaraj temple here. The Lingaraj temple administration today decided to impose a fine of Rs 100 on people who consume liquor, paan or gutkha on the temple premises.
As per a decision taken at a meeting of the temple administration, the new rule will come to effect from January 15. The move is aimed to ensure cleanliness within the periphery of the temple.
Last month, the State government had announced a special package for Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar. The government said a 66-acre Ekamra Khetra Yojana has been launched as part of the beautification of Lingaraj Temple.
Nine projects will be taken up as part of the package. Work on renovation of historic water tanks, modern parking, Lingaraj Heritage Project, development of Kedar Gouri and Muketswara temple premises, e-auto programme and establishment of a heritage interpretation centre will be carried out.
For the past few days, the district administration has been carrying out eviction drive around the temple as part of the project.
