Muniguda, Apr 1:

A dawn to dusk bandh called by Muniguda NAC Milita Kriyanusthana Committee demanding Notified Area Council (NAC) status for the town today paralysed life in Odisha’s Muniguda.

Normal life was badly hit as agitators picketed across various places of the town.

While vehicular traffic came to a standstill, most shops and government offices remained closed. Passengers were seen stranded in bus stops.

“The government assured to make Muniguda an NAC way back in 2000. It was on the top of the list when the government announced a list of places to be made NACs. However, the announcement has not been implemented yet. We have taken to the streets against the dilly-dallying tactics of the government. The agitation would be intensified further, should the government not give in to our demands,” said Bisama Tudu, an agitator.

Even though there have been no reports of violence so far, security measures have been beefed up to avoid any untoward incident, said SDPO Ananta Prasad Mallick.
