Banker Arundhati Bhattacharya appointed as chairperson of Odisha IIM

Banker Arundhati Bhattacharya has been appointed as the chairperson of the Society and Board of Governors of IIM Sambalpur, said an official release.

Bhattacharya who is currently the chairperson of SBI has been named as the chairperson of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Sambalpur for the next five years starting January 15.

She had joined the SBI in 1977 as a probationary officer and in 2014 she was listed as the 36th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes. She has held several positions during her long career at the largest bank of the country.

Mentored by IIM Indore, IIM Sambalpur is among the six new IIMs which got approval of the government in the 2014-15 budget, the release said.

IIM Sambalpur started officially functioning from the temporary campus at Silicon Institute here on September 23 last year with registration and orientation of students. Out of the 49 students who have joined IIM Sambalpur 40 are boys and nine are girls.
