Base operations to start at Odisha’s BPIA from Oct 1

Late night and early morning connectivity to and from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Odisha capital will certainly add more options for the frequent flyers with the beginning of flight base operations from October 1 here.

For first time, the BPIA authorities will launch the flight base operations from October 1 which will facilitate late night arrivals and early morning departures.

With the flight base operations, the carriers will be able to park their aircrafts in the bay in the night to start their services next morning.

According to airport sources, two IndiGo flights from Kolkata and New Delhi would land here in the night. While Kolkata flight would arrive here at 10.05 pm, the New Delhi flight would land here at 12.30 am. The flights would suspend their operations for the night and begin their next flight at 5.55 am and 6.05 am for Kolkata and New Delhi respectively.

“From October 1, two IndiGo flights will make their base here. With this, employment opportunities will be generated. Besides, early morning and late night connectivity options to Kolkata and New Delhi will be available,” BPIA Director Ramaswamy Mahalingam said.

Meanwhile, frequent flyers have welcomed the introduction of the flight base operation system.

“Earlier, there were limited options of late night flights from New Delhi. Now, it will be convenient to catch a flight late in the night to Bhubaneswar,” a city resident said.

Notably, IndiGo, Air Vistara, Air India and GoAir operate over 30 flights from the city airport connecting nine cities across the country.

IndiGo will be launching four more flights from Bhubaneswar to New Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad in the next two months, sources said.
