BDA approves BPIA master plan in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Giving nod for expansion and beautification projects of Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) approved its 54-acre master plan here.

The master plan by the BPIA authorities has been included under Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) so that the BDA will never create any kind of trouble in the proposed developmental projects of the airport.

As per the condition set by the BDA, the airport authorities will have to obtain permission from both the BDA and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) before carrying out any project.

Sources said that the BDA has approved the BPIA master plan last month.

As per the master plan prepared for the airport, several developmental projects will take place in various areas located opposite the car parking area.

Sources said that luxury hotels, shopping mall and a 4000-seat convention centre, the biggest government conference hall in Bhubaneswar, will be built in total 54 acre area.

Meanwhile, the airport authorities have made a blueprint for a fully-air-conditioned terminal 3 having advanced facilities. The terminal 3 will be constructed in an area of 58,000 square metre with capacity of yearly 6 million passengers.

Earlier, BDA had written to the General Administration (GA) department recommending stay order on the developmental projects of the BPIA.

Last year, the airport authorities had called for tender for construction of hotels and shopping malls under expansion project.

The BDA had asked the airport authorities to add the state government’s plan to the project.

The airport authorities sent the 54-acre master plan including the government’s plan to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for approval. Later, BDA gave green signal for the project putting the controversies into rest.
